Dry Eye Symptom (DES) is an ocular surface condition that causes vision fluctuation and symptoms that impede on quality of life when severe enough. These symptoms include redness, watering, gritty sensation, irritation, eye pains, and light sensitivity. When these symptoms are not treated properly it could lead to contact lens intolerance, eye infections, and decline in vision.

The tear layer is made up of three layers: aqueous, oily layer, and mucin. When one of these layers is compromised, it causes an instability in the tear film, therefore causing it to not function or lubricate the eyes properly.

Membranes are derived from the innermost layer of a woman's placenta after childbirth. The membrane is rich in growth factors, placed on the ocular surface to promote healing.

Unlike soft contact lenses, Scleral Lenses are proven to help those with chronic dry eyes by retaining moisture in the eyes and serving as a barrier between the ocular surface and the environment.
