Healthy Food
5 Tips for Healthy Eyes
  1. Omega 3 Fatty Acids - DHA and EPA

    • Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines), flaxseed, chia seeds, walnuts, eggs, yogurt, soy beverages,

    • Fish depends on your weight, 125 lbs = 4 oz per week to eliminate consumption of mercury

    • Look for amount of DHA and EPA in supplements, Vitamin E in Alpha-Tocopheral form is a preservative so don’t be fooled- it’s to keep the fish oil supplement together!

  2. Beta Carotene and Vitamin A

    • Beta Carotene is a precursor to Vitamin A (retinol), the human body converts beta carotene into Vitamin A. Not only is it good for the skin, it’s recommended to keep your eyes healthy

    • Good source would be CARROTS! Along with Mango, Cantaloupe, Grapefruit, - be sure to watch sugar levels if diabetic

  3. Lutein and Zeaxanthin

    • Both of these are highly concentrated in the eye, just in different parts of the retina and probably the most important supplements to take in keeping the retina healthy and to prevent Macular Degeneration from progressing

    • DARK GREEN leafy vegetables: kale, spinach, broccoli - do not overcook or you’ll lose the bioavailabililty of them in the leaves.

  4. UV Protection

    • Just like how you should be wearing sunblock every day, protect your eyes too!

    • Slower reduction in Cataracts, Macular degeneration, and Dry Eyes

  5. Low Sugar and Low Sodium Diet

    • Keep a healthy level of sugar and sodium in your diet to prevent Diabetes, High Blood pressure, High cholesterol and in turn, healthy eyes!
